Israeli news outlet Haaretz has revealed that the occupation army’s Military Police Criminal Investigation Division has no plans to investigate the murder of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Aqla Nasri.

According to the report, occupation authorities believe that questioning Israeli forces will cause controversy in the army and society.

This decision comes just days after Israeli troops brutally attacked Abu Aqla’s funeral procession, and despite the fact that the army’s preliminary analysis determined Abu Aqla “could have been” killed by Israeli fire.

The Israeli army neither confirmed nor denied their decision when pressed by the Spanish news agency EFE.

Colleagues of Abu Aqla, who also came under fire on 11 May while covering Israeli raids on Jenin, said occupation troops deliberately targeted the senior Al Jazeera correspondent, despite wearing a bulletproof vest clearly labeled PRESS.

Palestinian journalist Shatha Hanaysha stated that the Israeli snipers who opened fire could clearly see that they were journalists.

The Haaretz report comes days after occupation police arrested one of the Palestinian pallbearers beaten by troops during Abu Aqla’s funeral.

Amro Abu Khudeir was arrested on 16 May. His lawyer said the charges were not revealed to his client, but said that the charges were based on information solely from Israel’s domestic security service.

According to the lawyer, Abu Khudeir later told him he was questioned about the funeral.

“He gets no light or sense of the time of day in his two-by-one meter underground cell,” the lawyer said.

Amro Abu Khudeir stood out in the footage of the Israeli attack of Shireen Abu Aqla’s funeral, which showed pallbearers struggling to stop her coffin from falling to the ground as Israeli police beat the mourners using batons.

While several pallbearers were beaten by the occupation troops, Abu Khudeir was the only pallbearer to be arrested after the funeral.

“Israeli intelligence alleges that Amro worked with a terrorist organization and that he has a secret file with the intelligence,” Abu Khudeir’s lawyer told Al Jazeera.

However, the detainee revealed that all the questions during his interrogation had been related to the funeral.

“Amro was asked why he insisted on carrying the coffin and making sure it didn’t fall to the ground,” said the lawyer. “The main focus of the questions was about him being a pallbearer at Abu Aqla’s funeral.”
