A US army logistics convoy came under attack in Iraq on 9 June, according to local media.

The attack occurred in the Al-Baiji area, located in Baghdad province. The identity of the attackers is unknown, as are other details about the attack.

US military installations in Iraq come under frequent attack from unknown resistance groups, many of whom are believed to be backed by the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Attacks on US forces in Iraq have seen an uptick in recent months, after Baghdad’s failure to implement a law passed by parliament to expel foreign occupation forces from the country.

The vote to expel foreign occupation forces came in the days following the assassination of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Commander Qassem Soleimani and Popular Mobilization Units deputy chief Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in 2020.

Iraqi resistance groups have pledged to only lay down their arms after the full withdrawal of US forces in Iraq.

On 24 May, a drone laden with explosives targeted the Baghdad Diplomatic Support Centre, located inside an Iraqi military base, and which hosts US diplomats and troops, according to reports from RT and BBC World Service correspondent Nafiseh Kohnavard.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attempted drone attack to date.

US military convoys came under attack as recently as 15 May, according to reports. Similarly, no one claimed responsibility for the attack.

Recently, Iraqi resistance group Harakat Hezbollah Nujaba has threatened to target Israeli and US positions in the Iraq Kurdistan Region.

In March this year, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched a precision missile strike against a Mossad base in the city of Erbil.

Speaking exclusively to The Cradle, a senior Iranian security source revealed that three Mossad agents were killed during the strike.

In another exclusive, the official spokesman of the Erbil office of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Azad Jolla, confirmed that the Israeli spy agency Mossad has long been active in the capital of the Iraq Kurdistan Region.

An explosive-laden drone detonated in the city of Erbil in northern Iraq on 8 June, injuring three people and damaging a number of vehicles in the area.

According to unconfirmed reports by Iraqi media correspondents, a member of an Israeli assassination squad by the name of Ellak Rod was killed by the blast.
