A series of explosions rocked a US military base near the occupied Al-Omar oil field in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, eastern Syria, on 14 September.
Eyewitnesses reported the sight of flames and columns of smoke coming from inside the largest US military base in Syria.
Moments after the explosion, US forces activated army helicopters and reconnaissance drones around the area.
According to Sputnik, it is unclear who was behind the attack in Deir Ezzor.
“A missile attack carried out by unknown groups targeted the “Green Village” at the illegal US base in the Al-Omar oil field, followed by high columns of flames,” the agency reported.
According to local sources, at least three Katyusha rockets landed on the al-Omar field base triggering sirens around the base.
A few hours after the attack, two explosions were heard in the vicinity of Al-Mayadeen city, east of Deir Ezzor, the attack was likely carried out by the international coalition forces on armed groups backed by Iran.
The Al-Omar oilfield is frequently targeted by Iran-affiliated militias, with the most recent attack on the 3rd of this month.
There have been no confirmed reports of casualties among US soldiers residing in the Green Village, a former housing unit for workers of the Syrian Oil Company.
On 24 August, three US soldiers were injured by a missile attack on the US base near Conoco gas field in Syria’s northeastern Deir Ezzor countryside.
The illegal military base near the oil fields has been targeted five times by missile attacks in the past month alone, which resulted in injuries of US soldiers and significant material damage.
US-led coalition forces have set up bases in the Al-Omar oilfield, the country’s largest, and the Conoco gas field located on the eastern banks of the Euphrates in 2014 to supposedly fight the Islamic State group.
According to the Syrian government, US occupation forces and their mercenaries steal up to 66,000 barrels per day from the fields they occupy in eastern Syria.
