Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian held an official phone call with Ismail Haniyeh, the Political Bureau Chief of Hamas, in which he praised the struggle of the Palestinian people to defend their lands against Israeli occupation.
“The choice of resistance is the only way to liberate Palestine and end the occupation of its territory,” Abdollahian said, later hailing “the jihad and steadfastness of Palestinian women and men in the face of the occupying Zionists, particularly the courageous resistance in the battle of Saif al-Quds,” in reference to the battle between Israeli occupation forces and armed factions in the Gaza Strip in May this year.
Iran’s top diplomat also expressed his country’s full support for the Palestinian cause, saying “the Islamic Republic of Iran, as in the past, supports the Palestinian people’s struggle for liberation [of all territories] and the formation of an independent Palestinian state across the historic [Palestinian] territory with Al-Quds as the capital.”
The Hamas leader thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for its support of the Palestinian people and their struggle. He also congratulated Abdollahian on his appointment to the post of Foreign Minister.
Since the victory of the Iranian Revolution in 1979, the Islamic Republic has been a staunch supporter of Palestinian liberation movements.
