At least 10 Israeli settlers were killed, and 10 others were injured during a shooting attack on 27 January at a synagogue in the Neve Yaakov neighborhood of occupied Jerusalem.

Israeli police killed the perpetrator of the attack, who was identified as 21-year-old east Jerusalem resident, Khairi Alqam.

According to local reports, Alqam arrived at the ultra-Orthodox settlement in a car and stopped near a synagogue. He then waited for the service to end before opening fire.

Hebrew media reports said the occupation forces are searching for additional suspects that may have aided the gunman. A handgun allegedly used by the attacker was found at the scene.

The shooting came one day after Israeli troops committed a massacre in the occupied West Bank, killing 10 Palestinians during a violent raid in massacre in the occupied West Bank.

This marked the deadliest day for Palestinians in the West Bank in over a year.

Early on Friday, the Israeli air force launched several airstrikes in the besieged Gaza Strip as retaliation for two rockets fired by resistance factions against adjacent Israeli settlements.

Soon after news broke about Friday’s shooting attack, Hamas issued a statement congratulating “the heroic operation in occupied Jerusalem, which comes as a quick response to the Jenin massacre, and is evidence of the vitality and readiness of the resistance.”

“The Jerusalem operation confirmed the ability of the resistance fighters to strike back at the heart of the entity, to pay the price for its folly and drink from the same cup,” the Hamas statement added.

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) also released a statement hailing the attack on the synagogue and highlighting that “the enemy only understands the language of force.”

“The heroic operation in Jerusalem confirms that the Palestinian people live in geographical and political unity,” the PIJ statement reads, adding that the attack “is a field message to the extremist Ben Gvir and the occupation government.”
